"1892" Political Art
Artist Felicia Follum Statement: This work is a part of my most recent art exhibition titled “Make it Plain.” http://feliciafollum.blogspot.com/search/label/Make%20it%20Plain Make it Plain focuses on African American history and religious culture.
1892 (originally titled 230 nooses) consists of 230 nooses. Each representing one of the 230 people lynched in 1892. Using nooses to show the extent of the overwhelming hatred, racism, ignorance, and bigotry that was present (and still is to some extent) in American history and culture started conversations and helped people to understand the significance of learning American history from a variety of viewpoints.
