So, what is so funny about McCain supporter’s emails?

I receive emails from a "friend" and McCain supporter, all of which I find quite amusing. But my Sweetheart tells me that I’m mean spirited. I said, "no – really they are very funny," and then I proceed to try and explain why they are funny. But somehow – in the analysis of the emails the humor is lost.

And I realize she’s right. I certainly know that once you try and explain a joke to someone that doesn’t get it – it is not funny. But I try to explain it to her anyway.

Me Sweetheart asks, "So, what is so funny about this one?"

I say, "People believe that because McCain can’t raise his arms above his shoulders, he can’t use a computer – and that is funny because it doesn’t make sense."

And she asks, "why doesn’t that makes sense?"

"Well, first of all you don’t use a computer above your shoulders."

She says, "That’s not funny."

"No, wait," I say. "That is not the funny part. There’s more., McCain is left-handed."

"What’s so funny about that."

"Nothing. I’m left-handed and so is Obama. Anyway, you see photos or video of McCain signing stuff all the time. Just use google images. You’ll see."

"What is the point?"

"If he can sign something in front of him he certainly can use a computer. I mean, look at my hands. You know how difficult it is for me to use my hands."

She says, "None of this is sounding funny."

"You’re right. It’s not," I say, " But that’s not the point. The funny point is people believe that McCain doesn’t use a computer because he can’t lift his arms above his shoulders but he can sign something on his lap. That is what is so funny. People actually believe that – they believe it and tell others, who tell others who tell others. And I find that kind of crazy, irrational thinking very amusing."

"So he sent you one, funny email."

"No," I say, "they are all like that."

"All of them?"

"All of them," I say.

She says, "That’s not funny."

"I know," I say. "That is what is so funny."
